Naturalist Night: Lichens 101

February 5 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Event Series: Fungus February

Lichens are all around us, yet they are often overlooked and misunderstood.

Join lichen expert Ken Kellman for an engaging evening exploring these fascinating organisms, beginning with an introductory lecture followed by a hands-on lichen identification session.

Participants will examine a variety of local lichen species using dissecting microscopes and learn how to observe key features used in lichen identification. This interactive program is perfect for curious beginners and nature lovers looking to deepen their understanding of the living world around them.

Light refreshments will be served.

Interested in continuing the lichen fun? This lecture pairs perfectly with our guided lichen walk led by Ken on February 14.

Ken Kellman is a member of the California Lichen Society and the volunteer curator of lichens and bryophytes at the herbarium in the Kenneth Norris Center for Natural History at UC Santa Cruz.
