The First Peoples of Santa Cruz

Best for 3rd - 4th Grade

Schedule Your Field Trip

Students learn about the culture of the original human inhabitants of Santa Cruz. Through exploration in our native plant garden, exhibits, and artifacts, they see different tools and practices used to survive, and gain understanding of a native culture. In the process of learning about the Ohlone cultural connections to nature, students come to understand that humans are a part of the ecosystem.

Please Note: Beginning Fall 2026, we are adjusting the format of our onsite programs to include one station led by chaperones and/or the classroom teacher. We will provide clear guidance and materials to support this station. We are still finalizing the details and will share more information before the start of the next school year. We are also prioritizing field trips for 3rd and 4th grade students this year.
