Winter Solstice Sea Star Search

Join us for this 2-hour program exploring some of Santa Cruz’s most vibrant tide pools!

Guided by nature educator Anne Cassell, participants will join us for a winter solstice celebration focused on finding sea stars, which play a vital role in our coastal ecosystems. Using iNaturalist, participants will share their sea star observations and contribute to the world’s largest global biodiversity dataset.

  • We recommend downloading the iNaturalist application before the program begins if you would like to document any sea stars you see with the iNaturalist application.
  • Please let the parking kiosk know you are with the SC Museum of Natural History group to receive complimentary parking. Free parking is also available on surrounding streets. You may need to walk a little way to reach the meeting location.
  • Please plan to bring any water and snacks you will want during the program.
  • This program runs rain or shine. Please dress appropriately for all weather and a light walk on some uneven areas.
  • Facilities: There are 2 unisex restrooms and a drinking fountain located near the parking lot.
