DESCRIPTION:The Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History is turning 120 years old!\nAuthor Taylor Lahey will be reading his debut book\, ‘Câmbio’. \nTo celebrate\, we’re throwing a huge birthday party for August’s First Friday! \nWe’re bringing together some of our friends from across the community for a night of games\, arts and crafts\, music\, and so much more. Learn about the impacts made by these partners throughout the County and our shared collaborative histories over the years. \nAs a special treat\, there will be a storytime with internationally acclaimed children’s book author\, Taylor Lahey. To spotlight the Museum’s commitment to environmental education for all ages\, Taylor will be reading his book about youth-driven environmental activism which shows anyone\, no matter the age\, can make a positive impact in the world! \nPLUS\, this wouldn’t be a party without a FREE dessert station from Freedom Bakery! We’ll have a sweets bar for the kiddos and an open bar for the adults. SUMMARY:Intro to Plein Air Painting - Albino Redwoods
DESCRIPTION:Go outside and learn to paint gouache and watercolor landscapes while surrounded by nature as inspiration! This open-air art workshop will teach the techniques necessary to capture environmental perspectives through the creative use of negative space\, layering\, various stroke techniques\, and more. \nUsing the Museum’s exclusive access to various vistas as reference\, participants will be guided through the basics of transferring the awe of albino redwoods to canvas with step-by-step instruction. No prior experience required. \nParticipants will have a completed art piece to take home at the conclusion of the workshop. Open to ages 16+/all experience levels. All supplies included—workshop made possible with support from Land Trust Santa Cruz County.\n \nREGISTER\nInstructor: Taylor Seamount\nClass Size: 18 Students\nMaterials Fee: All supplies are included in class fee.\nClass Fee: $44 – Museum Members receive a special discounted price applied at checkout.\nFYI: This class takes place outside; dress appropriately for the outdoors. DESCRIPTION:Capture the beauty of redwoods on canvas using the forests as inspiration. In celebration of the new Treasured Trees exhibit\, adventure into the redwoods of the Byrne-Milliron Forest and learn to paint with oils using nature as a living reference. \nThis open-air art workshop will teach the techniques necessary to capture environmental perspectives through the creative use of negative space\, layering\, various stroke techniques\, and more. Paint a vibrant\, local forestscape while minimizing waste and avoiding harmful chemicals. Surrounded by nature\, participants will translate the depth\, richness\, and quality for which oil paints are renowned. \nNo prior experience required. Participants will have a completed art piece to take home at the conclusion of the workshop. Open to ages 16+/all experience levels. All supplies included.
