In this hands-on workshop\, participants will learn the basics of printmaking and design and carve their own natural-history-inspired printing blocks using soft-cut linoleum. \nUse your custom stamps to print beautiful\, one-of-a-kind tea towels perfect for holiday gifting. You’ll also have the option to create your own sustainable wrapping paper and gift bags\, turning your prints into a full eco-friendly gift set. You’ll take your hand-carved block home with you\, so you can keep printing long after the workshop ends. \nNo prior experience required. Participants will have a completed art piece to take home at the conclusion of the workshop. Open to all ages and experience levels. Before settling in Santa Cruz\, Beck could be found studying printmaking at SAIC in Chicago\, working on film sets in Honolulu\, or wandering the Pacific Northwest. Now rooted on California’s central coast\, they spend their time making videos at the museum\, reading under shady trees\, and searching tide pools for nudibranchs. \nAccessibility & Info – This program takes place indoors at the Museum. Please note that printmaking involves hand tools and materials that may get messy\, so casual attire is recommended. DESCRIPTION:Every third Saturday of the month\, we invite volunteers to come together as a community to steward Tyrrell Park through the City’s Adopt-A-Park program. During this volunteering event\, you’ll get your hands dirty assisting with the maintenance of the park\, our pollinator garden\, and Pilkington Creek\, while gaining insights into local ecology\, native plants\, and sustainable gardening from Museum Gardener\, Laura Kummerer. \nSaturdays in the Soil happen every third Saturday of the month. \n​Sign up via Volgistics or email volunteer@santacruzmuseum.org to register.\nWhat to Expect \n\nThis project requires volunteer support with general landscaping\, occasional watering\, weeding\, and replanting.\nPlease let us know if you need special accommodations when you email to RSVP.\nThis program happens rain or shine\, but we will cancel in the case of muddy conditions or inclement weather.\nAll ages are welcome; children under 14 require adult supervision. Volunteers under 18 require a parent/guardian to sign waivers.

Using iNaturalist\, participants will share their sea star observations and contribute to the world’s largest global biodiversity dataset. \nThis event is for Museum Members only.\nSOLD OUT! Contact info@santacruzmuseum.org to join the waitlist\nFYIs & Accessibility Info \n\nWe recommend downloading the iNaturalist application before the program begins if you would like to document any sea stars you see with the iNaturalist application.\nPlease let the parking kiosk know you are with the SC Museum of Natural History group to receive complimentary parking. Free parking is also available on surrounding streets. You may need to walk a little way to reach the meeting location.\nPlease plan to bring any water and snacks you will want during the program.\nThis program runs rain or shine. Please dress appropriately for all weather and a light walk on some uneven areas.\nFacilities: There are 2 unisex restrooms and a drinking fountain located near the parking lot.
