SUMMARY:Tracking California's Dinosaurs
DESCRIPTION:Where are all the dinosaur fossils in California? What happened to California dinosaurs? Did they exist here? Were there dinosaurs in Santa Cruz? If not\, why? \nLearn the answers to those questions and much more as we unearth the mysteries of California’s dinosaurs. Join vertebrate paleontologist and environmental geologist\, Prof. Hilde Schwartz\, as she takes us back in time to explore the rich history and hidden secrets of California’s fossil record. Light refreshments will be served prior to the start of the program. After the lecture\, there will be audience Q&A. \nREGISTER HERE\nSpeaker: Prof. Hilde L. Schwartz\, UCSC’s Dept. of Earth and Planetary Science\nClass Fee: $12 – Museum Members receive a special discounted price applied at checkout. \nAbout the Speaker:\nHilde Schwartz is an earth scientist who’s dabbled in both geology and paleontology. Her research always begins ‘in the field’\, and her main field regions have been in Africa (Kenya\, Tanzania\, Egypt) and the American southwest (including California). Hilde’s interest in dinosaurs began when she was a child (naturally)\, but was fully realized when I was invited to participate in research with the New Mexico Museum of Natural History on dinosaur sites in New Mexico. In the late 1990s\, she proposed a new class at UCSC called ‘The Natural History of Dinosaurs’\, which she taught from 1999 until her retirement from the Earth and Planetary Sciences Department in 2024. Hilde maintains an active interest in dinosaur research and will always be a dinosaur enthusiast. \n
