Hannah will guide the process while sharing fun facts about herps\, their biology\, and why these smooth and scaly creatures are vital to healthy ecosystems. No prior art experience is needed. DESCRIPTION:Please join us in celebrating the publication of Singing from the Deep End (CavanKerry 2026)\, a poetry collection about girldom and friendship set on the rocky Atlantic coast by Rebecca Hart Olander. In addition to being a poet\, Olander is the editor and publisher at Perugia Press\, a press dedicated to publishing first and second books by women poets. \nOlander will be joined by Santa Cruz poet Lisa Allen Ortiz and former Los Angeles Poet Laureate Lynne Thompson both of whom had first books published by Perugia Press. DESCRIPTION:Join Art of Nature artist Avery Maltz for a hands-on workshop exploring botanical ink-making using locally sourced plants. In this small-group setting\, you’ll learn how natural pigments are extracted and turned into usable inks. Avery will demonstrate the process step by step\, showing how plant materials are simmered and transformed\, and how factors like heat\, time\, and material choice affect the final color. \nParticipants will also work with a pre-prepared batch of ink\, adding natural binders and preservatives before bottling their own to take home. The workshop will wrap up with time to test the inks through drawing and mark-making. Participants will then be guided step-by-step through drawing the plant\, learning approachable techniques to break down its unique shapes and textures. Working from live plant material\, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of plant structure by closely observing and even gently deconstructing specimens.
